2021, Journal of Neuroscience MethodsCitation Excerpt :For instance, atlases using the Göttingen minipig are not suitable references for domestic pigs due to their differences in neurogenesis (Jelsing et al., 2006), age of puberty (Reiland, 1978; Taberner et al., 2016), and differences in behavior and cognition (Gieling et al., 2011). Other MRI-based atlases for domestic pigs have been developed (Watanabe et al., 2001; Saikali et al., 2010; Conrad et al., 2014), but do not explicitly provide normative volumetric information for brain regions, brain microstructure, or vascular characterization. Brain microstructure has been investigated using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), an MRI technique that measures water diffusion in tissues and is highly sensitive to microstructural composition.
