Modeling, simulation, identification and optimal control of large biochemical systems

Abstract

A new approach of biology by biochimists has been presented. This approach consists in building simple biochemical models, well described by partial differential equations. Numerical analysis of these equations give more information about the evolution or the stationary state of the profiles of cencentration inside the membranes. The numerical analyst is asked also to find optimal controls of these systems, or to identify some of their kinetic parameters. Moreover these artificial enzyme membranes offer very exciting possibilities for medical applications, biotechnology, bioengineering.

Therefore, this approach of biology seems to be a field of increasing collaboration between biochemists and applied mathematicians.
