Abstract
The simulator TOCS is suitable for analysing distributed systems with IBM system /370-like architecture. In this paper we show how to describe both the hardware and the system structure of general distributed systems. Measurements of existing distributed systems have shown that the host-FEP interface is very important for their performance. We demonstrate this by the simulation of a specific interface. Finally we give examples of how to describe applications in general distributed systems.
