Abstract
We study the representation of facts by means of linguistic variables defined on a given universe and characterized by some attributes. Deduction rules binding evidences of this type are managed through a fuzzy logic, using a generalized modus ponens process. In the case where the premise of a rule does not match exactly an observation concerning the same variable, some problems may occur with regard to the conclusion we are able to obtain and its possible further use in another rule. We consider the particular case where the difference between premise and observation can be expressed by means of a linguistic modifier and we study particular modifiers such that the conclusion deduced through the generalized modus ponens can be easily characterized, generally directly and without any computation, and interpreted in case of necessity.
