Abstract

Web-based Intelligent Systems Environment (WISE) offers generic, modular, flexible and scalable system solutions for information retrieval, extraction, fusion, knowledge discovery and intelligent decision support, using heterogeneous, distributed data and knowledge sources in information rich, open environments. WISE consists of multiple, interacting, software modules, connected if and when needed, allowing for the development of complex, multiparadigm, intelligent applications. Two illustrative examples of WISE application are described in more detail - a web-based system for water remediation technology assessment and selection, and an intelligent investment advisory system, FIDES. The former one has opted predominantly for multicriteria decision making algorithms (MCDM), particularly outranking methods, while the rule-based systems, and fuzzy rule-based systems in particular, have been added in financial and economic decision making in the latter one. WISE proved flexible enough to satisfy the needs of both, albeit completely different web-based intelligent systems.
