Abstract
PDAs, cellular phones and other mobile terminals are now in common daily use. In Japan, high efficiency cellular phone service that can provide not only text and image data, but also video data has begun. We have developed, for these high efficiency cellular phones, a personal digest system that delivers professional baseball programs. The system is based on our Personal Digest Making Scheme (PDMS). For building the digest system as a commercial service in mobile environments, PDMS had three problems. (1) It does not always produce high quality digest scenes. (2) It uses too much information for cellular phones. (3) It dose not take into account of accesses by users in the order of magnitude of tens of thousands. To solve these problems, in our digest system for mobile environments, we have developed the following three solutions. (A) Video scenes are extracted manually. (B) All processes are handled on the server side. (C) Users. preference levels are calculated on the fly when the user accesses the system. With these solutions, the system can easily and quickly provide high quality personal digests in mobile environments.
