Abstract

A family of preconditioners for an iterative solver of a separable elliptic boundary value problem in spherical geometry arising in numerical weather prediction has been implemented and tested on a vector processor. The PCG-MILU(0) solver obtains practical convergence in a small number of iterations and outperforms a highly optimized direct solver at high-resolution.
