Abstract

In this article, we describe a new computerized method that we created, based on algebra, to check consistency in knowledge bases. We apply this method to sets of medical appropriateness criteria developed using the RANT) method. An example of criteria tables for coronary bypass WBS used to test the method. Different computer tools were developed to facilitate this logical validation. A JAVA program was also developed to display criteria tables in a flowchart format, using any WWW standard browser. Thus, appropriateness criteria can bc transformed into effectivc guidclines for medical practice.
