Abstract

We propose a method of acquiring factual knowledge using the Knowledge Base Acquisition Environment (KBAE) of CRL (Computing Research Laboratory). We observed that a Fact Database that is generated by instantiating ontological concepts takes advantage of the full expressive power of ontological structures for use in NLP systems, including machine translation, information retrieval and question-answering systems. We argue that both the construction of the Fact Database and the quality of applications that use it can be enhanced by ontological inferences that are available from the connected resources.
