Abstract

Selecting the appropriate grade of plastic for a customer from the 3000 grades available is an important knowledge intensive job for the General Electric sales force. A case-based reasoning recommender system, called Global Grade Selector, was created to capture, maintain, and constantly learn information about grades and the knowledge that is needed to correctly select them. Global Grade Selector was fielded to the 800 people in the GE Plastics worldwide sales force in July 2002. During the second half of 2002 it was used for 4700 sales opportunities.
