Abstract
This paper deals with theoretical and applied NLP considerations about the definition and the uses of selectional restrictions as a means (1) to restrict the nature of the arguments of a predicate, (2) to detect and resolve sense variations and more generally (3) to be exploited in the composition process. Via several examples, we show the advantages and the limits of such an approach.
