Abstract
Path-based inference allows the inference of the existence of an arc between two nodes based on the existence of a path of arcs between those nodes. Path-based inference has been used in the SNePS Semantic Network Processing System for several years. When SNePS was extended to include belief revision (giving rise to SNeBR) the path-based inference capability was lost, because no study had been done to decide how to compute the dependency (on other nodes) of the node generated by path-based inference.
In this paper we discuss how to incorporate path-based inference in a semantic network used for belief revision (SNeBR) and show how to compute the dependency of the nodes generated by path-based inference. The techniques that we develop can be used to incorporate belief revision techniques in networks based in hierarchies.
