Abstract

The management of the security of networks is essential to preserve the security of the information carried by those networks. Local Area Networks (LANs) are particularly vulnerable to security breaches due to the physical and logical characteristics which allow any station on a LAN potential access to all data on the LAN. Thus, it is imperative that not only security be provided for LANs, but that the security be managed such that development cost is minimized and efficiency of communication is maximized for management. The concept of a LAN security server is presented and the modeling of a LAN security server is shown using an example LAN.
