Abstract

When both 1-to-0 and 0-to-1 errors may occur but they do not occur simultaneously in a single byte, the errors are called a unidirectional byte error. In this paper, codes for correcting two or more random errors and a single unidirectional byte error are investigated. Constructions of such codes are proposed. The constructions give some codes with two check bytes, whereas single-byte-error-correcting codes with two check bytes cannot correct two or more random errors. This paper also gives a construction of random- and burst-error-correcting codes for asymmetric channels.
