Abstract

This paper examines Poole's notion of “commitment to assumptions” as well as Makinson's demand for cumulativity in the context of default logic. It provides a semantical characterization of Brewka's approach which can be regarded as a realization of both notions. Moreover, another variant of default logic is introduced that shares the nice properties of Brewka's variant but avoids some of its problems.
