Abstract

Active Database is a database which contains as a part of its schema definitions of derived data stated as computational invariants and constraints stated as logical invariants. The invariants are enforced in an active way.

The information stored in the database might be partially inconsistent with either database definitions or invariants. This paper classifies the inconsistencies types and suggests an appropriate handling mechanism for each type (using either exception-handling mode or modal operators or numeric methods).
