Abstract

In this paper, we introduce the recent development of cryptologic research in Korea since 1989. Two workshops on information security and cryptology and a symposium on data security have been held. The Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology (KIISC) was organized in December 1990. The KIISC is playing a leading role for promoting research activities on cryptology in Korea. Since Japan is very active in the area of cryptologic research and development since 1984, it is worth to include Japanese research activities in this paper. Also, the recent cryptologic research activities in the Republic of China (Taiwan) are introduced.

With regard to the research activities from other nations in Asia, it is unfortunate not to compile their activities in this issue due to the lack of information available at the present time.
