Abstract
An algorithm for the classification of pulsed signals having a phase or frequency modulated carrier is presented. First, the linear phase component from the unwrapped differential phase history of a pair of signals is modeled using linear regression. Statistical techniques are then used to determine if the phase residuals from the linear regression model are consistent with the hypothesis that both signals have the same modulation. The linear regression model also provides an accurate measurement of the carrier frequency offset. Simulation results for different modulations and signal-to-noise ratios are consistent with the theoretical performance.
