Abstract

Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) have become increasingly important for enabling students to understand and solve specific problems. It is realised that today's state-of-the-art ITSs still lack the collaboration and co-operation aspects in a real life classroom. This paper describes the LearnMedia, a co-operative ITS for learning multimedia. The architecture of LearnMedia consists of three layers, the educational agent layer, the knowledge server layer and the repository layer. By deploying repository technology, the architecture provides the means for multiple educational agents to conduct co-operative and collaborative interactions between students and teachers and among students. The LearnMedia prototype demonstrates the need for multi-agent co-operation and collaboration in future ITSs.
