Abstract
In addressing the move in the telecommunications field toward Integrated Service Engineering, the paper introduces the concept of resource adaptation in a service environment. The relationship between Resource Adapter, Service Node and Service Machine is examined, along with the role of RM-ODP viewpoints in the identification and development of Resource Adapters. Further analysis of design aspects is presented and implementation requirements are discussed. Finally, the paper demonstrates the relationship between Resource Adapters and the TINA Connection Management Architecture, with an example Resource Adapter being presented.
