Abstract
In this paper we present a vision of the road towards Global Multimedia Mobility (GMM). Through evolutionary steps driven by market forces we expect future core networks such as the GSM-UMTS NSS, ISDN and B-ISDN to provide multimedia services to multi-mode terminals through multiple access networks. Starting from the DECT/GSM dual-mode service, we trace the path via CTM/GSM dual-mode towards multi-mode services. Our contention is that IN-techniques can provide the “glue” to unify different access technologies and provide support for services based on multi-mode terminals and multiple access technologies. Intelligent Networks, dual-mode and multi-mode terminals are seen as the enabling technologies that will make GMM a reality.
