Metadata and Semantics

This paper addresses the issue of metadata in Diplomatics science. Due to the fact that there is no metadata schema in order to describe in detail the information held in Diplomatics documents and to face the problem of factitiousness, the creation of an appropriate schema is explained and further explored in this paper. This schema is meant to be used for a strict category of documents of Diplomatics which are called Privilegia and the reason for that restriction is due to the intense controversy of the structure of Diplomatics documents during various time periods and production mechanisms that make each category or subcategory to vary.
