Abstract
This article provides basic information and an overview of the kind of R&D projects in Human Factors (HF), Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Ergonomics (or usability in general) that have been undertaken commercially and by Institutes of Higher Learning in Singapore. The projects have been undertaken to support initiatives advanced by Government Ministries & Statutory Boards and commercial companies. It should be noted that the account given is only intended to be indicative rather than comprehensive, and the examples cited are intended to characterize the contexts, challenges and successes or otherwise of the contributions of the discipline made in Singapore by researchers and practitioners. The case examples are not intended to provide a comprehensive account of the design evaluation and solutions that might be specified in accordance with design principles of the discipline. The account in this chapter also identifies some generic performance shaping factors that can facilitate or hinder uptake of discipline contributions and suggests some generalizable strategies that can be applied to address them.
