Definitions

Biometrics “Automated recognition of individuals based on their behavioral and biological characteristics.”

Biometric “Of or having to do with biometrics” (International Standardization Organization: ISO SC 37 – Standing Document 2, version 6, July 2006).

Biometric can be seen as a general term used alternatively to describe a characteristic or a process [6].

As a characteristic

“A measurable biological (anatomical and physiological) and behavioral characteristic that can be used for automated recognition.”

As a process

“Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on measurable biological (anatomical and physiological) and behavioral characteristics.”

Biometric traits Deployable biometric systems utilize, among the many available, one or more of the following biometric traits [46]:
