Using Executable Interactor Specifications to Explore the Impact of Operator Interaction Errors

Abstract

In this paper, we discuss the requirements for a tool to support analysis of the impact of erroneous task performances on a system, and report on preliminary work on a prototype implementation in Prolog. We define impact informally as: ’the effect that an action or sequence of actions has on the safe and successful operation of a system’ An understanding of the impact of particular sequences of interactions may help humanmachine interface 1 designers to derive designs that minimise the probability that sequences with high negative impacts will occur.
