Realizing Object-Relational Databases by Mixing Tables with Objects

  • Conference paper

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an approach for implementing object-relational DBMSs by using a heterogeneous database system architecture. The paper first discusses the type extensibility of an object-relational DBMS and its query language. Then the architecture is presented for realizing object-relational technology on the top of relational and object-oriented DBMSs. In particular, two main functions — schema transformation and query translation are further studied.

The work reported in this paper has been funded in part by the Cooperative Research Centres Program through the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet of the Commonwealth Government of Australia.
