Performance Projections for a Relational Query Processor

  • Chapter
Book cover Database Machines and Knowledge Base Machines

Abstract

The Hercules Relational Query Processor (HRQP) is a special purpose hardware device designed to accelerate database retrievals. A set of performance equations describing the selection and join operations of HRQP has been developed and used to compare and contrast HRQP with other database architectures. The equations have been parameterized with various configurations and database sizes in order to explore the performance range of HRQP. The results show that for its intended environment HRQP exhibits better performance than the closest competing architecture.
