Abstract

Intellectual property law affects anyone who is engaged in source reuse and remix. In this chapter, we use four thought experiments to explain and discuss aspects of copyrights, patents, licensing, and current issues in IP law. These thought experiments are largely based on scenarios taken from our own empirical research and from contemporary events. Along with our analysis of each thought experiment, we consider the implications of these laws for software development.
