Definition

NeuroMorpho.Org is a freely accessible online database of three-dimensional digital reconstructions of neuron morphologies that are described in the scientific literature. The goal of the project is to enable reuse of these valuable data for research and to encourage data-sharing in the neuroscience community (Ascoli 2006). To this aim, the project identifies publications containing neuronal reconstructions and contacts the authors asking them to make their data available to others (Halavi et al. 2012).

Detailed Description

New data is uploaded to the database periodically during version releases. Version 5.7, released in May 2014, included 11,335 reconstructions contributed by 144 laboratories worldwide from 24 species and 29 brain regions. These data represent more than 30,000 h of manual reconstructions and 72 m of traced axonal and dendritic branching. Since the first public release in August 2006, the website has received over 135,000 unique visits from 146 countries....
