Definition

Face pose analysis is the process of determining the location and the orientation of a face (yaw/pitch/roll) with respect to the camera’s/sensor’s coordinate system and the subsequent facial analysis based on that information. A typical face pose analysis system determines the head pose by analyzing the information that is contained in the facial area (typically determined by a face detection system) using models of face geometry (i.e., models of the relative location of facial landmarks such as the nose tip and the eye corners) and/or models of face appearance (i.e., models of the intensity/color variation across a face image).
