Abstract

As one of the hottest research area in wireless networks, vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) can significantly improve the efficiency of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and life safety. However, VANETs have to face some security issues and challenges. The security of message transmission and privacy protection during communication still present practical concerns to the deployment of VANETs. Anonymous authentication is one of the key security requirements in VANETs. Though many authentication approaches have been proposed, the scheme that can achieve both security and efficiency is still needed. In this paper, we propose a novel efficient secure authentication scheme through the combination of group signature and identity based (ID-based) signature. The complete anonymous authentication process is elaborated. We also employ pseudonyms mechanism to ensure privacy preservation during authentication. It can be analyzed and proved that our proposed scheme can meet the security and efficiency requirements of VANETs well.
