Abstract

In this paper we propose the use of techniques typically employed for safety-critical systems for the identification of weaknesses in traffic control systems, specifically in systems with dynamically changing sets of sensors. The paper introduces the basic terminology of dependability engineering as well as typical architectures for sensor networks and common problems for their operation. Mapping both aspects to the application domain traffic control systems, the paper gives some ideas how these techniques could be used to evaluate the trustworthiness of decisions and to identify risks for these decisions.
