Abstract

In this chapter, a novel type of implanted planar antenna is proposed for UWB body area communication. The wideband characteristic of the antenna is achieved by double elliptical rings radiating the wideband signal and one small elliptical branch matching with the 50 Ω coaxial cable in the whole demanded band. The dimension and shape of antenna have been optimized to fit into the wireless endoscope capsule. In addition, the receipt of phantom of muscle is also proposed to simulate the electric properties of muscle tissue in lower part of UWB. The simulated and measured reflection coefficients show that the designed antennas perform well from 3.1 to 4.8 GHz inside phantom. The radiation characteristics of the antenna are also measured in the proposed phantom.
