Abstract
Personal Information Management (PIM) is the domain that involves methods and procedures to study how people keep, manage, maintain and re-find information. Related studies show that re-finding could be a difficult and time-consuming task due to many factors involves during the re-finding time. Even though, many innovative PIM systems have been designed and published, little existing works have focused on several factors that people face and the time taken to perform the re-finding process. This paper aims to investigate the efficiency of performing the re-finding process using a recently developed personal photographs management system called PHOTO REFINDER. Accordingly, twenty participants performed 100 re-finding tasks using PHOTO REFINDER and Baseline systems. Subsequently, quantitative data were collected through a pre-study questionnaire and a screen recorder system to calculate the time taken to perform given tasks. The results showed that PHOTO REFINDER supported users significantly with less time during the re-finding process with respect to each factor. This study contributes to the PIM domain by describing the methodology used to design the evaluation experiment and considering all factors that could affect the re-finding process.
