Abstract

Competitors and customers put Local Owner-Operated Retail Outlets (LOORO) under digitalization pressure. Local Shopping Platforms (LSP) seem to offer a promising approach to overcoming the manifold e-commerce adoption barriers for LOOROs. However, the business model of LSPs focuses on services that support the online Point of Sale (PoS). Therefore, it is crucial for LOOROs to know if customers will accept and use LSPs and what are the main drivers. This paper presents a survey of customers of a medium-sized town in Germany investigating these factors. Results show that location dependent services are crucial for the success of LSPs.
