Abstract

Traditional marriage custom articles are practical objects which are full of “stories” and “ritual sense” and formed from the combination of life experience, cultural customs and traditional skills of ancient laboring people. As an important carrier of traditional culture, they contain positive value orientation and spiritual pursuit in people’s life. In this study, the marriage custom “ten-mile red dowry” in Zhejiang Province is selected as the research object, and it is divided into three stages. In stage 1, through literature discussion, it proposes to redesign use object, use field, cultural story and vessel shape characteristics of marriage custom articles from technical, semantic and effect levels and establishes an evaluation architecture. In stage 2, according to the evaluation architecture, the redesign pattern of marriage products in “ten-mile red dowry” is proposed by using the cultural product design pattern, and the feasibility of using the design architecture in the redesign of marriage custom products is investigated and analyzed by questionnaire method. In stage 3, the evaluation results are evaluated, and the design reflection of this study and suggestions for further optimization are proposed.
