Incorporating Key Leader Engagement into Tactical Simulations

Abstract

Following the recent changes in conventional warfare throughout the Middle East and the importance of “winning hearts and minds,” the military has placed emphasis on establishing bonds with the local populace and leadership through Key Leader Engagements (KLEs) [1]. Virtual reality (VR) technologies such as the Virtual Human Toolkit [2], allow for simulations of KLEs to be contained and disseminated with ease. However, coding the natural language processor for meaningful immersive learning requires the language processor to engage the user in a story. Capturing the experiences of those with direct KLE experience and personifying an Intelligent Agent with the essentials of that experience are key to an engaging story. The process begins with front-end analysis (FEA) [3]. This paper describes that process pursuant to a simulation designed to train awareness of critical features of the KLE.
