The Effect of Restorative Environment and Presence Based on Virtual Reality for Anxiety and Depression

Abstract

This research designed several virtual environments and interactive activities, explored how to design and develop VR psychological intervention scenarios for people with anxiety and depression mood, and optimized related products or services. Study 1 adopted 2 (pre-test and post-test) *2 (anxiety and depression state) *4 (VR scenarios) experimental design and Study 2 adopted 2 (pre-test and post-test) *5 (VR scenarios) experimental design. The results showed that: (1) restorative and present VR scenarios were effective in intervening anxiety and depression, especially for improving state anxiety; (2) environmental elements and interactive activities were key factors influencing the improvement of anxiety and depression; (3) EEG and EMG could study the mechanism of VR scenarios to provide a theoretical basis for designing VR psychological intervention tools.
