Abstract

In this paper, we illustrate the impact of simple Why questions as a means to reveal global aspects that may easily be forgotten during traditional requirement analysis. For illustration we use the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), a prime example to observe that adequate solutions may require to think out of the box, beyond just stepwise trying to fulfill individual requirements. Our Why analysis revealed the traditional, scattered data handling as the essential bottleneck, which we believe can be overcome by a cloud-based knowledge management across departments and applications.
