Abstract
Online communities, social networks and social media in general have been recognised as important information resource for consumers and are more and more influencing the travel planning of consumers nowadays (Gretzel & Yoo, 2008; Arsal et al, 2008). Consumers cannot only receive content from the Internet, but also generate their own content in form of travelogues, photos, videos, reviews or even tweets and status updates on social networks like Facebook or Twitter. This so called User Generated Content (UCG) often is perceived more reliable than information provided by the destination or tourism service provider and subsequently considered as substitute for word of mouth (Niininen et al, 2006). While particular attention was given to studying the online travel planning and booking behaviour of the overall population, less attention was paid to this behaviour when it comes to disabled travellers. The survey results presented in this paper therefore provide interesting insights regarding this issue as well as the general trip planning behaviour of people with impairments.
