Abstract
The following study describes the development of e-Success, an instrument for assessing the success of websites from a business perspective. E-Success is based on a model derived from theory and incorporates a measurement and evaluation process, as well as an extensive catalog of objectives. By evaluating objectives according to their importance for a company, e-Success may be used to assess the success of websites of the most diverse businesses, regardless of size or sector. This enables improvement measures to be derived and provides the foundation for a successful Internet presence. Furthermore, empirical use of the instrument among Swiss hoteliers and Valais winemakers indicates specific strengths and weaknesses of e-Success.
