Abstract

In this paper, we develop an Arena simulation model to study the optimal design of security-check systems for screening passengers in airports. With the increasing of terrorist attacks, the airport safety has become more and more important, but the enhanced security increases transportation costs and reduces airport efficiency. Through the numerical experiments with our Arena simulation models, it demonstrates the effects of the risk threshold for further inspection on the passengers’ average waiting time and the airport’s safety level.
