Definition

A wiki is an interactive, modifiable, and collaborative website, the contents of which can be edited via web browser; only those granted access can modify site content.

Introduction

Wikis are social networking tools characterized by a high degree of connectivity, providing users the means to collaboratively develop web content (Alexander 2006).

Wikis add powerful collaborative dimensions to the classroom by actively involving learners in their own construction of knowledge (Boulos et al. 2006). They offer information sharing and collaboration features, acting as cognitive reflection and intensification tools and aiding the construction of meaning through the self-design of knowledge repositories (Jonassen et al. 1999).
