Abstract

The introduction of virtualization and the expansion of scale in data center result in sharp consumption of MAC address which also expose some weaknesses in MAC address such as inefficient allocation scheme, and one-dimensional address structure, among others. Hence, we have proposed a centralized management based on MOOSE address. However, structure of MOOSE address is based on location information, MOOSE address will change after VM migration. Hence, existing schemes are not good enough to meet the demand based on these new structures of MAC address and thus we propose a thoroughly VM migration scheme in data center based on MOOSE address. We have implemented and tested our solution, and found it to be a practical and effective way of achieving migrating VMs without interrupting their network connections based on MOOSE address.
