Abstract

Due to an increasing number of merger and acquisitions (M&As) and the high failure rate post merger integration (PMI) is still of growing interest. An effective process harmonization (PH) is essential during the PMI. The objective of this article is to identify crucial requirements for a successful post merger PH in the triangle of methodologies, capabilities and acceptance. The study assessed methodologies and capabilities during the various PH phases and the attainment of employee acceptance. 12 hypotheses affecting the three fields were developed and tested. A number of central results can be provided: there is no statistically significant evidence for a methodology to be applied, whereas a number of beneficial capabilities during the PH phases were identified. Conducing issues for employee acceptance especially in the areas structure, information policy and team composition are presented.
