Abstract
In this article, the open-source Node-RED framework is considered as a low-cost, open-source automation system for education and research. It can be used not only to demonstrate and experiment with automation principles, but the open concept of the framework also allows customizations of the different components of the automation system.
Thanks to its shallow learning curve, good availability and a strong online community, this platform is very well suited for different education levels, from secondary school to universities. This paper will describe the different possible applications in education.
