Abstract

We present a method that deals effectively with existential derived predicates during view updating. Existing methods either consider all instantiations of a given existential variable or request the instantiation directly to the user. Clearly, these approaches are not appropriate since either they are not practical or rely on the user’s best guess to assign the most appropriate values. On the contrary, our proposal considers only patterns of the variable instantiations that are relevant to the view update request, rather than taking into account all possible instantiations.
