Abstract

Flexibility is one of the key features in future manufacturing systems. Although agent-based control has been expected to improve flexibility, no applications have been proposed to batch chemical plants. In this paper, modulation of batch plants and recipes for multi-agent systems are discussed. Each vessel has its own agent. However, all transportation equipments, such as pipes, pumps, compressors and valves should be controlled by an unique agent. Transfer agent has intelligence to choose a suitable path and to execute many requests at the same time. The system structure shown in this paper is effective to maintain high flexibility against the changes in recipes or plants.
