Abstract

Grid computing allows large-scale sharing of resources. The resource management system (RMS) is one of the most important Grid components because it provides the mechanism to manage all the available resources in an efficient way. Due to the large size of current Grid systems, the RMS is usually a federation of several cooperating RMS’s. This cooperation implies an information exchange between the set of heterogeneous RMS machines. In order to compare the different information exchange policies, this paper defines a new metric, the information efficiency. This metric allows to quantify the benefits obtained with a resource dissemination policy, considering the network traffic generated by the information exchange and its scalability. Conclusions about what policy is most efficient for Grid systems will be presented.
