Comparing and Merging Ontologies: A Concept Type Hierarchy Approach

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Computer Science ((LNAI,volume 2871))

Abstract

In this paper we explore the issue of using some aspects of the Conceptual Graph Theory formalism to define functions on ontologies. We exploit the formal definitions of type hierarchy and projection to define operations on an ontology. We discuss the definition of an ontology, and demonstrate that projection as defined in Conceptual Graph Theory can then be used for comparing and merging ontologies. We then explore how these formal definitions can be used to implement merging and comparison of ontologies.
